In Germany, the contract negotiations for SC and LWC paper have made considerable progress in January - surprisingly for some market observers. Many contracts have already been concluded. Possibly also driven by the prospect of worse terms, manufacturers have contented themselves with significantly lower add-ons than they had originally been striving for. SC paper producers have still done relatively well whereas suppliers of LWC have only achieved mark-ups of a maximum of €20/t as a result of the downgrading process. And the last word does not appear to have been spoken here either. In view of the big price divide with regard to testliner and a surplus in supply, a reduction in price for brown kraftliner has emerged after many manufacturers had initially been optimistic at the beginning of the year of being able to hold prices steady in January.
