Price negotiations for newsprint have been kicked off in Germany

In Germany, negotiations for new news-print contracts have finally been kicked off. Most suppliers are aiming to restore the price level of 2009 and their lowest target is a price of €500/t. Another of their key objectives is to shorten contract periods to three months. Newsprint supply currently remains short. Demand for cartonboard is unusually high for the time of the year. Deliveries of GC board are allocated as in the past and there is no relief in sight. As such, further upward movements in prices at the beginning of 2011 cannot be ruled out. As the year comes to a close, demand and operating levels in the segment for re-cycled corrugated case material are mod-erate to fine. Efforts to tweak prices have quietened down.
