High raw material costs and low selling prices put squeeze on Q1 profits

Many European paper manufacturers experienced a relatively healthy business phase in the first quarter of 2010 compared with the first three months of the previous year. The majority of manufacturers improved their business results compared with last year's first quarter or could at least keep them stable. According to suppliers, the development in the first quarter 2010 was largely supported by a slight economic upturn which in many areas of the paper market went hand in hand with a noticeable improvement in demand.
