Production at CVR's Varazze mill still idle

Italian paper manufacturer Cartiera Verde Romanello S.p.A. (CVR) has extended the temporary three month downtime at the Varazze paper mill. According to the company's management, the temporary layoff period for 60 of the mill's 64 employees has been extended for another three months while the date for the resumption of production at the mill has been pushed back from 31 May to 31 August 2010. The company cites unfavourable market conditions including the increase in recovered paper prices and lowrnselling prices as a result of which the mill cannot be kept running profitably.
