Sodra takes market-related downtime, Folia and Tofte pulp mills down for at least four weeks

Sodra Cell AB will halt pulp production at the Norwegian Folia and Tofte sites with effect from 12 December for an indefinite period. Furthermore, the maintenance downtime at the Swedish Morrum mill is to be extended. This makes Sodra the first company that has officially announced marketinduced downtime to adjust supply with demand in the European pulp market in an effort to arrest the downslide in prices. The duration of the temporary stoppages will depend on developments in the pulp market in the coming weeks, Ulf Edman, president of Sodra Cell International, told EUWID. However, machines will be halted for at least four weeks which means production will start no sooner than in the middle of January. The Folia mill in Follatoss churns out some 100,000 tpy of CTMP and is so far Sodra's only site to produce this pulp grade. The Tofte mill produces 400,000 tpy of soft- and hardwood pulp.
