During the third week of February almost all market-relevant producers of northern bleached kraft pulp announced price increases of $30 to $980/metr.t for Europe with effect from 1 March. Manufacturers say the new pricing round is due to the continuing tightness of the softwood fibre market, stocks being on a low ebb, and demand exceeding supply. Therefore, they are not going to get involved in any major negotiations with converters, EUWID was told.
