No breakthrough yet in German newsprint contract negotiations

There has not yet been a breakthrough in the newsprint contract negotiations. The suppliers' goal of at least maintaining the conditions of the first half of 2011 now seems unrealistic. The question now is whether - and especially by how much - prices will fall below the €500 mark. In the recycled containerboard segment, the price hike of €60/t started in February was finalised as of 1 March. The fact that the February price hike was not completed until 1 March in some cases is making it more difficult for paper producers to implement the next step of mark-ups of €40/t.
