DS Smith to acquire SCA's packaging operations to become Europe's no. 2 supplier

SCA is to sell its packaging operations excluding two kraftliner mills to DS Smith for a consideration of €1.7bn on a debt-free basis. The transaction, which is subject to approval from DS Smith's shareholders and EU antitrust clearance, would make DS Smith clearly the number two supplier of corrugated packaging in Europe behind Smur-fit Kappa. The acquisition represents an exceptional opportunity to accelerate its strategy to become the leading supplier of recycled corrugated packaging for consumer goods in Europe, DS Smith said in a comment on the planned transaction.
