Third draft of the German printing inks ordinance ready for comments, industry calls for EU-wide regulations

The planned ordinances regulating printing inks and mineral oils in food contact materials in Germany are making slow progress. Likewise, a uniform Europe-wide legislation on the conformity of papers and boards used in food packaging is nowhere in sight. Market participants and observers alike are increasingly calling for a Europe-wide regulation, which they consider an absolute must in today's world of global goods trade. This attitude was also expressed during various lectures and discussions held at this year's seminar entitled "Effects of German and European food and packaging legislation on paper and board packaging", which was organised by the Paper Technology Foundation (PTS) in Munich. Despite individual efforts undertaken by the EU Commission, experts doubt that legally binding regulations will soon be issued.
