Poland's publication paper and coated fine paper prices continue on downward trend

Poland's economy grew 2% last year, according to initial estimates released by Poland's main statistical agency. Experts expect the pace of this growth to dipto 1.5-2% this year, which is still above the EU average in spite of this slowdown. A similar trend is playing out in several sectors of Poland's paper market. Even though insiders are predicting that growth might flatten off for a few grades in 2013, the market volume is still satisfactory compared with other European countries. Graphic paper suppliers could not complain about sales volumes although prices left something to be desired. The latest round of price talks is threatening to become a battleground. Instead of increasing, January prices had fallen again in Poland, especially for reels. Publication paper manufacturers' plans to charge more in new contracts also often done the reverse.
