Delion to start production of deinked pulp in mid-2015

Delion France plans to resume production of deinked pulp at the former Vertaris mill in Voreppe/France towards the end of the second quarter 2015. The company reported that it has acquired the pulp dryer of the Lielahti mill in Finland which Metsae Board closed down in 2008. The sheet dryer as well as the baling equipment will be installed during the first quarter of 2015 so that operations can begin in the middle of the year. The company had earlier reported that the investment sum will amount to€15-20m.Commissioning of the mill was originally scheduled in October this year. A company spokesman explained that the delay is the result of a shift in strategy. The company had originally planned to install a flash dryer but subsequently decided in favour of a dryer to enable production of pulp sheets because they can be delivered more easily on international markets. Delion will produce deinked market pulp in Voreppe for the writing and printing paper, paperboard as well as tissue markets. Mill output will initially amount to 140,000 tpy which will be gradually increased to 200,000 tpy, the company said. The mill start-up will reportedly create 70 new jobs.
