IP to restart idled PM 3 in Valliant

At the end of September, US Oklahoma governor Mary Fallin welcomed a decision made by US company International Paper to restart the idle containerboard machine no. 3 at its Valliant mill. The company plans to invest around $90m to restart the PM, thereby creating about 65 new jobs. According to governor Fallin, the Valliant mill will become one of the largest and most efficient containerboard mills in North America. Current plans provide for the PM 3 resuming production in the summer of 2015. The PM 3 in Valliant had been taken out of operation for an indefinite period of time in November 2008. In the course of IP's comprehensive capacity reduction programme, the machine was subsequently decommissioned for good in 2009. Two other machines continued to operate at the Valliant mill.The decision to idle the machine was IP's short-term response to market overcapacities regarding paper and packaging.
