Germany: Producers announce price hikes for brown kraftliner from 1 September

Although bookings at brown kraftliner manufacturers continue to be good, market prices at the end of July tended to be stable or softening in Germany. Nevertheless, the first suppliers have given notice of price increases of €50/t, effective from 1 September. These plans are not yet having any impact on the purchasing behaviour of the converters. Instead, they are seen more as an attempt to participate in the mark-ups for recycled corrugated case material. A leading producer of fine papers has caused an uproar among wholesalers by changing its sales strategy for coated sheets. In future he plans to directly supply printing companies with these papers. As a result, the wholesale sector could lose important volumes.
