European umbrella groups advocate a ban on landfilling starting in 2020

A group of European industry associations is calling upon EU Environment Commissioner Janez Potocnikto stick to banning the landfilling of recyclable or otherwise recoverable wastes from 2020 onwards in the planned package of measures on the circular economy. The groups fear that the European Commission may essentially adhere to the ban, but delay its implementation to 2025 or even 2030, according to a letter that was sent to the Environment Commissioner in late April.
