China and India are growth engines in the global pigment market

In its latest study on pigments, Ceresana forecasts global pigment sales to rise to $34.2bn in 2020. Pigments are mainly used in the production of paints and varnishes as well as for colouring plastics and construction materials. Other applications include the production of printing inks and paper. According to the market research institute, China and India are the engines of growth in the global pigment market - the Asian-Pacific region already accounts for almost half of the world's consumption of pigments and is expected to increase its market share even further. Ceresana prognosticates that this region will continue to be the pigment industry's largest sales market because demand for pigments is rising substantially in China and India in particular Eastern Europe, the Middle East and South America will also register demand growth of more than 3％ per year and thus contribute to further growth in the pigment industry, it reports. According to the institute, the rather saturated markets in Western Europe and North America will slowly start to grow again after having suffered losses over the past couple of years.
