PTT expects growth in board and pulp markets in 2015/2016

Lower production figures in the Finish paper industry, but higher board production and pulp exports are expected by the Finnish Pellervo Economic Research (PTT) institute for the current year and next year. According to the institute, the continued weak demand in Europe and the announced or completed capacity closures will be felt in the paper segment. PTT expects that paper production will decline by around 3-4% in 2015 and by another 3-5% next year. However, export prices are likely to rise. PTT explained that the value of paper exports still makes up approximately 40% of the total value of exports from the Finnish forestry industry in spite of declining production figures.
