Rigid Container starts up new corrugated board plant

Rigid Container officially put its new corrugated board plant into operation at its Wellington mill on 23 September 2015. In doing so, the company has completed a £5m investment programme. Rigid currently has 65 employees at the Wellington mill at present but has announced that this figure will be raised to approximately 100 within the next twelve months. The facility in Wellington was opened in 2013 as a distribution hub for customers in southwest England. This was followed by the installation of printing and die-cutting machines in 2013 and 2014. This enabled Rigid in Wellington to convert sheets of corrugated board produced in Desborough into packaging. The volumes required for the installation of a corrugated board plant to make economic sense had already been reached in Wellington in early 2015. Rigid decided in favour of a 1.8 m wide Quantum system made by the Italian manufacturer BP Agnati.
