Recycling of residues still offers potential

The paper industry has been focusing for some time on how to recycle residues from paper production as part of their efforts to open up new business segments and reduce costs. A seminar of German foundation Papiertechnische Stiftung PTS on "New biogenic raw materials - added value from residual matter"highlighted several disposal routes as well as use options for residues, but these are on the whole not profitable and on the contrary still entail significant costs. Residues from paper production, however, offer recycling potential because of their high organic content and because they are produced in large quantities concentrated at a number of locations, said Dr Wolfram Dietz of PTS.
