Producers of improved newsprint hoping for higher prices in Germany

The newsprint market continues to be too squeezed by the decline in shipment figures. In Germany retroactive prices, which are typical for coldset grades in the business with publishers, are putting an additional strain on the earnings of paper companies that only just completed their price negotiations in May.That is why manufacturers plan to "send a signal" with the negotiations for the delivery conditions for heatset grades in the second half of the year. Manufacturers of heatset and improved newsprint stress they need higher prices. Price hikes have already taken effect for brown recycled corrugated case material. Given the favourable market environment, manufacturers said it was no problem to raise prices in Germany by €40/t. Quotes for grey board have also risen. Following on the mark-ups for GD board and higher recovered paper prices, the first of these increases reportedly took effect from 1 July.
