Sappi Gratkorn starts up fully overhauled liquor boiler

Sappi Europe has completed a full overhaul of the liquor boiler at its Gratkorn mill in Austria. The pulp plant was started up a few days earlier than scheduled. The company had originally assumed pulp production would be at a standstill for three months starting from mid-March. The plant is currently in the process of being run up to speed and optimised. Sappi Gratkorn expects pulp production to reach full capacity before the end of July. Sappi told EUWID that the conversion had no effect on pulp capacity, though the plant has undergone a full overhaul which the company is expecting to assure better pulp availability. It was added that the conversion work on the liquor boiler has had no effect at all on paper production. Sappi had built up an appropriate stock of its own pulp in advance of the conversion and compensated for the shortfall with market pulp. An additional volume of 75,0001 of pulp was bought in, the company said.
