New pilot plant for nanocrystalline cellulose

The Swedish research and development company MoRe Research and the SPTechnical Research Institute are jointly planning the construction of a pilot plant for manufacturing nanocrystalline cellulose.The project is to be set up in OErnskoelds-vik, Sweden, near the bio-refinery demonstration plant and be ready for operation in the first half of next year. The facility will be the first of its kind in Europe and offers interested companies the means for developing nanocrystalline cellulose from cellulosic materials on a larger scale, explained Holmen in a joint press release. The technology for the pilot plant was developed by the Israeli company Melodea in which Holmen has a stake. Holmen is working as a catalyst in the creation of the facility.
