The set of circumstances facing woodfree coated paper producers and sellers is growing worse in Poland despite rising demand and satisfactory sales in the first quarter. Almost nothing seems out of the question any more when it comes to pricing, and even though there has long been very little room to lower prices, a new record low is being set every month. Many signs had pointed to a fresh round of price discussions for woodfree uncoated paper in January, and all key suppliers have now announced higher prices. Amidst brisk ordering, the chances of success are thought to be relatively strong in Poland, especially for offset sheets. Manufacturers also want to use the springtime to announce higher prices for packaging-related grades and want buyers to dig deeper into their pockets for recycled corrugated case material, brown kraftliner and recycled board.
