Record growth in Germany's corrugated board sector

This year the prognosticated sales of the German corrugated board industry will probably be exceeded by far. Registering sales growth of an estimated 4.1% per working day, corrugated board producers that are members of the association of the German corrugated board manufacturing industry (VDW) will improve their prior-year result by around 217 million m~2. "This means our result would be 2.9 percentage points higher than the result for 2017 forecast in December 2016,"commented Dr. Oliver Wolfrum, VDW managing director, on the occasion of the annual round table talks in Darmstadt when talking about the sector's positive development that is also based on a significant increase in gross capital expenditure. Above all during the second and third quarters, the industry boasted high growth rates of 5.7% and 5.5%, respectively. Its capacity utilisation rate was lastly placed at just under 94%.
