Price hikes are still a predominant factor in many sections of the German woodfree paper market in September. Market players, negotiating the recently announced hike, believe that prices will rise in the wake of the overall recovery in autumn, particularly in the uncoated paper segment. Supply has been affected particularly by reduced imports and the failure of a PM. However, the move might run into stiffer resistance from customers in view of successive upward corrections at regular intervals. Especially in the coated paper segment, a new hike is considered difficult to implement due to plentiful supply and cost increases as the sole justification.
