Recycling groups warn of 'devastating impacts' of Chinese ban on waste imports

The Bureau of International Recycling (BIR) is concerned that revenue losses in the billions of dollars and thousands of job losses could result from China's plans to ban the imports of specific waste materials. The Chinese government notified the plans to end the imports of certain waste plastics, unsorted waste paper, and certain metallic slags and residues to the World Trade Organization (WTO) on 18 July. The comment period on the notification closed on 20 July.
