2017 forecast to be another year of only moderate economic growth in Germany

Germany's economy is likely to continue to grow only slightly in the year 2017. Although the majority of the 48 associations surveyed by the Cologne Institute for Economic Research (Institut der deutschen Wirtschaft Koeln, IW) expects an increase in production, only three of them prognosticate "significant" growth. In contrast, eight associations expect poorer results. According to the IW survey, Germany's trade associations are cautiously optimistic about 2017. "There is a new trend towards protectionism and nationalism observable throughout the world. The outcome of the US elections and the imminent Brexit are the best examples of this trend, which clouds the economic perspectives of every export-oriented country," says Michael Huether, IW director.
