The Confederation of European Paper Industries (CEPI) together with other paper-related interest groups has written an open letter to the European Commission's president Juncker about the consequences of the possible removal of a number of EU Ecolabel product groups. In the letter signed by representatives of CEPI as well as those of the European Tissue Symposium, the European Consumer Association, the European Environmental Bureau and Eurocommerce, the signatories express their concern about the fact that the EU is considering discontinuation of some product groups that include two relatively successful EU Ecolabel paper-related products (tissue and newsprint). Such a discontinuation, the signatories caution, would entail negative environmental consequences and financial burdens for the industry as well as create confusion for consumers and give rise to other undesirable effects. They therefore urge the commission to reconsider the proposed removal of the specific product groups.
