Bvdm report confirms historical low in the German printing and media industries

The industry report published by the German printing and media industries federation Bvdm has confirmed the dramatic impact of the co-ronavirus pandemic on the sector's companies. The Bvdm explains that it is still too early to give the all-clear, especially as raw material prices have been rising sharply since the beginning of this year. The coronavirus crisis caused the most pronounced slump in the industry's production since the year 1991. The production index recorded in April 2020, for example, was around 26 per cent lower than a year earlier. Although short interludes between longer lockdown periods in the course of the year led to a recovery driven by backlog demand, on average production in 2020 remained 13 per cent below the comparable 2019 figure.
