James Cropper reports drop in sales and profit

British James Cropper PLC has reported a decrease in sales for the financial year ending on 27 March 2021. Group sales were down 25 per cent on the previous year, with the Paper and the Technical Fibre Products (TFP) divisions seeing a sales decrease of 32 and 7 per cent, respectively. The 3D Products (Colourform) division's sales grew by 9 per cent compared to the previous financial year. The most severe impact of the coronavirus crisis was reported in the first half of the year, with a steady improvement throughout the second half, the company said. Operating and net profit were also considerably down. The Paper division recorded a small operating profit before exceptional costs of £0.4m after £3.4m in the previous year. The TFP division's operating profit before exceptional costs stood at £6.9m (2019/2020: £7.8m). Colourform generated an operating loss before exceptional items of £1.4m, the same as the year before.
