The Scottish government is considering doubling the charge on single-use plastic bags from currently 5 to 10p. The Sottish parliament must approve the measure which will then come into force from 1 April 2021. Exceptions will be made for disposable bags used to package and transport certain Covid-19-related products. A ban on the sale of plastic-stemmed cotton buds is another measure aimed at reducing consumption of single-use plastics. Reports add that the government is considering imposing restrictions on other unspecified single-use plastic articles.
