SCA starts capacity closures at its Ortviken mill

SCA is progressing with its plans to exit publication paper production. As announced in August last year, SCA has started to close down machine capacity for publication paper at its Ortviken mill in Sundsvall, Sweden. The company said that the PM 5 at the mill had been stopped on 20 January 2021. The machine used to produce uncoated publication paper for newspapers, magazines and commercial print and had an annual output capacity of 255,000 tpy. SCA said that the two remaining paper machines at the Ortviken mill would be stopped during the first quarter of 2021. PM 5 started producing in 1985 and would be dismantled in order to make room for Renewcell, which is to install a textile fibre recycling line expected to start operating at the Ortviken site in 2022, the company said.
