Cariboo Pulp and Paper to halt production for four weeks

Canada's forest products companies West Fraser Timber and Mercer International will take approximately 4 weeks of downtime at their joint venture company Cariboo Pulp and Paper (CPP). The temporary downtime at the NBSK pulp mill in Quesnel, British Columbia is said to start at or around 20 April. The cogeneration facility would continue to operate during the downtime, the two companies announced. According to West Fraser and Mercer, pulp production at CPP has to be temporarily idled due to decreased fibre availability resulting from sawmill curtailments in British Columbia and the other effects of the Covid-19 pandemic on mill operations and employees. The downtime will result in an approximate reduction in NBSK pulp output of 30,000 t, West Fraser and Mercer said.
