Smurfit Kappa looks into beverage carton recycling plant

Smurfit Kappa Group has entered into a partnership with the Dutch companies HVC and Blue-mats to explore the possibility of building a full beverage carton recycling plant in the Netherlands. The beverage cartons to be recycled will come from HVC's sorting centre in Heerenveen and from Suez in Rotterdam. Single-use coffee cups are also included in the scope of the plan. The new plant would be the first of its kind in the Netherlands. Currently, beverage cartons are incinerated, disposed of in general waste channels, or exported. A final decision on the construction of the plant will be made in the next six months, says Smurfit Kappa.
