Italian corrugated board industry raises output in 2018, but loses market share in Europe

Italy's corrugated board and packaging industry has been reporting a steady increase in production and shipments for a few years now. This pattern continued last year. Output rose 3.6 per cent compared with 2017 to land at 7 billion m~2, representing 3.9 million t of corrugated board products (+2.5 per cent), the Italian industry association Gruppo Italiano Fabbricanti Cartone Ondulato (GIFCO) announced. GIFCO represents 70 corrugated board manufacturers and 311 converters that account for 91 per cent of Italy's total annual production.The association's members delivered close to 6.37 billion m~2 of corrugated board and corrugated board products in 2018,1.3 per cent more than in 2017. Some 97 corrugated board machines were installed at 86 locations across Italy in 2018, according to GIFCO.
