Italy's newspaper printers and publishers experience further decline in circulation in 2018

There was little positive news in the progress report published in connection with the annual meeting of Italian newspaper printers Asig (Associazione Stampatori Italiani Giornali) and newspaper publishers Fieg (Federazione Italiana Editori Giornali). Circulation numbers continued to shrink in 2018, once more dragging down sales revenues. The only ray of hope is that the rate of decline in circulation figures is slowing. Compared to the recent downturns of 15 per cent, the latest decline was only 5 per cent, according to the 2018 report prepared by Osservatorio Quotidiani "Carlo Lombardi". However, to put the state of the industry in perspective, it is necessary to look back over the past ten years: Compared to 2007, circulation figures are down by more than half.
