Zpk reports solid performance of Swiss pulp and paper industry in 2018 despite difficulties

The Swiss paper industry has long borne the brunt of digitalisation, market overcapacity in Europe and the attendant pressure on margins and prices. The unfavourable exchange rate of the Swiss currency against the euro has hit the export-oriented paper industry particularly hard. Despite the challenging economic climate, the paper industry in Switzerland performed "fundamentally well" in 2018 at the previous year's level, said Zpk, Swiss association of the pulp, paper and board industries.
