DS Smith builds CHP facility at Kemsley mill

DS Smith and German energy provider E.ON have announced the signing of a major agreement to construct a combined heat and power (CHP) facility at DS Smith's Kemsley paper mill in Kent. The facility will replace the existing CHP and is planned for commission in 2021, DS Smith informed, but did not provide any financial details on the investment. E.ON will finance, build and operate the CHP for 20 years. The two-year construction phase of the CHP plant is due to start this year. Once complete, the plant will have an electrical capacity of 75 MW, generating steam and power for DS Smith's production processes at Kemsley mill, which manufactures 830,000 tpy of paper.
