Hurricane causes production stop at Navigator Figueira da Foz

Portuguese pulp and paper producer The Navigator Company (Navigator) was forced to halt production at its Figueira da Foz mill in Portugal for approximately one week. The company reports that Hurricane Leslie, which hit the country on 13 and 14 October, caused property damages at the site. As a consequence, the mill had no supply of water, electricity or telecom services for a while, so that production was stopped, Navigator said. On 22 October, the company reported that supply of water, electricity and telecom services was restored and that the pulp line as well as PM 2 had already resumed production. The start-up of PM 1 was initiated on 22 October, with paper production from this machine expected to resume during next weekend, according to Navigator. The company put the estimated loss in production at 9,000 t of pulp and 10,000 t of paper.
