Fire hits viscose fibre production at Kelheim Fibres

Germany's speciality fibres producer Kelheim Fibres has suffered a major damage in a fire that hit the mill in mid October. According to the company, the fire broke out in the main fibre spinning area of the Kelheim plant. Even though the blaze could be contained and extinguished within a couple of hours, the damage to certain parts of the fibre spinning lines was severe, in particular the lines' electrical cabling was affected, and structural damage was done to parts of the spinning area, the company announced. Following a first preliminary assessment of the damage caused, Kehlheim Fibres has set up a provisional plan for the restart of production. It provides for the recommissioning of two lines at the end of October 2018, with a further two to follow at the end of November 2018. After four months, a further four lines are scheduled to be restarted, with the remaining two to follow eight months later.
