GTAI: Taiwan's paper industry has capacity optimisation yet no major expansion plans

The paper market in Taiwan is relatively saturated, therefore the industry is investing in cost-efficient domestic production and in new capacities primarily abroad. Within Taiwan, the only segment of the paper and board market showing growth in domestic shipments is the household and sanitary paper, explains Germany Trade and Invest (GTAI), the economic development agency of the Federal Republic of Germany. In this segment deliveries are said to have risen by 3.1 % in 2017. GTAI reports that although packaging-intensive e-commerce and industrial production are on the rise, demand for corrugated board and other paper-based packaging materials has largely remained stable.
