Regional Australia Institute to empower regional development

A new, independent body, the Regional Australia Institute, has been launched to advance regional growth and development. The institute will help regions recognise their strengths and diversify their economic base through scientific research and debate. Regional Australia and Local Government Minister, Simon Crean, launched the institute with Independent MPs, Tony Windsor and Rob Oakeshott, and the institute's inaugural Chair, Mal Peters.
