Reply to Commentaries

摘要

The three discussants of the paper are all experts in the treatment of Dissociative identity Disorder (DID) and their commentaries revealed their vast experience and knowledge of patients like Sarah. Not only did they discuss this specific case, but they shared their own clinical material and thoughts about treating DID. This reply to commentary picks up on some of those ideas and elaborates them further with specific reference to the patient presented. In addition, I answer several questions that were asked directly about the case or myself by the discussants. Finally, in this reply I express my surprise and disappointment that none of the discussants commented on or explored further the theme of selfhood or how one develops a self. I suggest that it may be a result of the distraction provided by a dramatic case example.
