Havana: A photographic stroll through the streets of a fading beauty

I wanted to photograph Havana, or as the locals say "La Habana," one more time before it had been changed by the money from the approaching flood of tourists. I envisioned snapshots from the 1950s with survival artists behind crumbling facades and in dilapidated classics. Cuban people are very photogenic—the mixing of races from white to black is considered as successful in Cuba as it has been in Brazil. Perhaps one of the reasons Cubans make such a good impression is that they not only receive free education, sugar, and black beans, they may even have free plastic surgery.
