摘要

Trucks, autos, planes and ships are so much more flexible than rail — simply by nature of their traveling over the open road, sky or sea — that it's no surprise railroads no longer possess the dominant market share. But transportation itself so dominates economics that considering market share alone as a measure of impact can be misleading. Such is the case with that growing group of economic specialists who call themselves "logisticians." Theirs is the specialty of weighing other factors, such as cost of transportation from origin to destination, and its relationship to other essentials of business success.
