Milestone in Mexico

It now appears that the year 2000 represented an important milestone in the evolution of Mexico's post-privatization rail network. Key routes have been integrated into the North American system, and track-concession holders now have two full years of experience in managing the assets they received in 1997 and 1998. One railroad's year-end statistics provide a clear signal that the benefits from both Mexican privatization and the North American Free Trade Agreement are bolstering railroad balance sheets north of the border.
