It's no secret that railroad capital budgets are tight, and that lingering economic lethargy has prompted even more belt-tightening in some capital-spending circles. Or that roads continue to clamor for higher quality, more affordable products and systems, even though re-search-and-development dollars are scarce. But knowledge isn't exactly power for suppliers bent on meeting customer expectations. Doing more with much, much less merely serves to strengthen their resolve―particularly among suppliers of communications and signaling (C&S) products and systems, such as end-of-train (EOT) devices and cab signal communications. As Paul Benton, president of Ultra-Tech Enterprises Inc., simply states: "Our customers are looking for a complete solution. We're trying to provide it for them."
