During the past year, North American railroads have been busy expanding and upgrading their infrastructure, as well as repairing track damaged by hurricanes and floods. That's kept track component suppliers busy, too. Switch machine manufacturers have been helping railroads replace worn and battered components, making it a banner period for the market segment, says Barry Wharity, vice president of sales and marketing for ALSTOM Signaling Inc.
