BNSF, Maersk Line team up on 'Flagship' service

Last month, BNSF Railway Co. and Maersk Line launched a new "Flagship" intermodal service for containerized freight moving from Asia to Chicago; Dallas-Fort Worth; Houston; Memphis, Tenn.; and northwest Ohio. The service offers dedicated, nonstop trains arriving at an agreed-upon time in each market. Flagship trains will bypass connecting points along the route to provide "unmatched service velocity," Maersk Line officials said in a prepared statement, adding that the service will provide a 95 percent on-time delivery rate. Investments by BNSF and Maersk Line over the past several years have helped develop an expanded rail network, state-of-the-art intermodal facilities and increased loading capabilities at ports, they said. The five markets represent Flagship's initial implementation, and Maersk Line might later expand the service to other markets.
