Technology is the key to asset utilization

Major railroads in North America continue to plow billions of dollars into their capital programs. Rail executives constantly work to strike a balance between investing in infrastructure and rolling stock to ensure adequate network capacity and service reliability, and generating sufficient returns to justify those investments. But railroads are also looking for ways to make better use of the capital investments that have already been made. Effective asset utilization will become increasingly important in generating the returns that owners of rail stocks have been promised.
