The Surface Transportation Board (STB) last month established certain minimum information requirements for demurrage bills that Class Is charge shippers. A new final rule's minimum-information requirements include billing cycle, ship ment, car replacement, and credit and debit information. The requirements represent what will have the greatest impact on the ability of rail users to review and verify the accuracy of demurrage charges and facilitate the resolution of disputes between railroads and their customers, STB officials said in a press release. The rule takes effect Oct. 6.
